FrieslandCampina attaches great importance to the fact that milk and other raw materials needed for its products are produced in a sustainable manner. Agricultural methods need to have the smallest possible impact on the environment, thereby contributing to the socio-economic development of local communities.
This approach is centred on cooperation with dairy farmer members, suppliers and local communities. FrieslandCampina thereby contributes to the sustainability of dairy farming and international raw material supply chains.

FrieslandCampina Professional and sustainable agriculture
FrieslandCampina Professional supports the ‘Sustainable Dairy Chain’ programme. This programme has several objectives, including energy-neutral dairy chain production; favouring grazing cows and increasing the health and well-being of milk cows; using biodiversity to carefully adapt our business development to the natural surroundings of the dairy farm business; and the responsible cultivation of raw materials for animal foods.
It goes without saying that dairy production is centred on cows. In order to monitor the health of cows, FrieslandCampina uses a continuous animal health monitoring system, which is part of the new ‘Foqus’ quality system. This system was developed together with dairy farmers and experts in the field of animal health and provides dairy farmers with a lot of practical information on monitoring animal health.
FrieslandCampina Professional encourages its dairy farmers in Belgium and the Netherlands to let their cows graze outdoors, where they have an abundant supply of grass and can enjoy the open air. Moreover, grazing cows are part of the culture of our landscapes.
