BRC stands for 'British Retail Consortium', a cooperative of the largest retail organisations in the United Kingdom. This organisation has established guidelines that a food producer must fulfil to be permitted to supply the large English supermarkets. These regulations go further than an HACCP plan alone. For example, there are expanded regulations for the vicinity of the plant and the requirements concerning organisation and communication.
The BRC standard has been developed because retailers impose different requirements on suppliers than general customers do.
IFS is the German/French equivalent of BRC.
ISO 22000 (HACCP)
For the management of food safety (consumer products), Frieslandcampina Professional applies the HACCP principles. All processes concerning the product are continuously evaluated for possible risks (physical, chemical and microbiological) to the health of the consumer. A management measure has been defined for all potential risks (Critical Control Point).
ISO 14001 is an environmental care system with which Frieslandcampina Professional controls its effects on the environment (environmental risks). Through this activity, costs (energy, water and raw materials) are saved and the positive relationship with neighbours and governmental authorities is strengthened even further.
ISO is an internationally recognised mark of quality, consisting of a set of standards and guidelines with regard to management systems that − given their international character − have the same content and significance worldwide. The care systems of Frieslandcampina Professional are evaluated by the recognised certification institution, Lloyd's. ISO 9001:2000 describes the quality processes that take place within the company. The Frieslandcampina Professional quality care system is part of the management system.
stands for 'Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series'. This is the first safety management standard accepted worldwide and that is supported by the larger certification organisations.
For Frieslandcampina Professional, OHSAS 18001 is a tool for the management of work risks.
Zuivelgids - Nevenstromen
Frieslandcampina Professional guarantees the food safety of consumer products as well as the food safety of the bi-products intended for animal feed by applying the GMP+ and HACCP principles. The control of the bi-products is a part of the obtained certificate "Autocontrole zuivel" of the plant Lummen.

Production of dairy is a careful process. Risk analyses, protocols and quality controls in the production chain, from dairy farm to distribution centres, keep the risk of errors to a minimum.

The quality of dairy products starts at the farm. Managing the quality throughout the dairy chain is a challenge the company faces. FrieslandCampina member dairy farmers co-own the company and therefor feel extra responsible for quality and safety of the products.

The policies and standards are compulsory for all FrieslandCampina business units.
Products and processes at all FrieslandCampina production and distribution sites are continuously monitored. Moreover, external, independent supervision is carried out and we work with internal audit teams.
Foqus dairy farm
Foqus has four key elements for the member dairy farmers,:
- Foqus Milk: the quality of the milk supplied, the milking and the refrigeration of the milk
- Foqus Cow: health and housing of the cows
- Foqus Production Process: quality of feed and water
- Foqus Environment: cleanliness of the farm and the option for outdoor grazing
Foqus is the system, used to comply with international standards and requirements, such as those for food safety (HACCP) and quality (ISO, BRC). The actual certification of our production companies is evidence of this.
